Terwijl ik nog druk bezig ben het verhaal over Josip Reihl-Kir te vertalen en verder af te maken moet de actualiteit een beetje wachten. Gelukkig zijn we ondertussen heel wat gelijkgezinde collega's tegengekomen op het Net. Hen eens in de bloemetjes zetten kost weinig moeite en dat kan ik dus tussendoor doen. De Blog over Extreem Rechts in Vlaanderen heeft ons artikel over taalprotectionisme als extra verwijzing gebruikt in zijn posting  van vrijdag 21 november 2008: België door de ogen van een buitenstaander. Daar is ook een goede clip bij die je terugvindt op GarageTV. Hij krijgt dus een plaatsje in onze Guest Room. De andere collegas vind je bij de Links.

Berufs Verbote

'De Walen, die willen niet werken' (The Walloons, they do not want to work). It's an often uttered complaint in Flanders. But some Flemish enterprises in Brussels do not want them to work. They not only require their employees to be bilingual, but they have to be Native Dutch Speaking too. This is indicated as Nederlands: moedertaal. This means if you were born in Brussels or Wallonia, and your mother spoke French, you do not qualify. This is completely illegal. Zaventem, foreigners not so welcome

A journalist from the Brussels weekly magazine The Bulletin phoned subsequently to Haarlemmermeer Town Hall (near Amsterdam Airport) and to the Town Hall of Zaventem (near Brussels Airport) to inquire the possibility to start a bussines over there. He was helped in English at Haarlemmermeer, but at Zaventem nobody could help him out, because the employees were not allowed to speak another language than Dutch. This is a sad story where stupid nationalists are refraining the economic development of Brussels and Belgium as a whole. Zaventem is the Belgian International Airport. A friendly gentleman has scanned the weekly for me. Look at the scans below.

Ik kreeg een reactie op mijn vorige posting over 'Linguistic Cleansing" uit Frankrijk van een 'UnFrench Frenchman' waaruit blijkt dat er aan de andere kant ook mensen zijn die Taal Protectionisme bekampen. Deze gentleman wijdt er zelfs zijn volledige Blog: 'The Worldwide Decline of French' aan.

De post 'Linguistic Cleansing' begon met de bovenstaande foto. Een caravan aan onze Belgische Kust waarop een op andere onverlaat "Fuck You Wolon" en een hakenkruis had gespoten. Een Menapiër die niet kan spellen want het moet natuurlijk "Walloon" zijn. Dit is wel de minst plezante manier om 's morgens wakker te worden en uit je caravan te stappen en dan op dat gekledder van vandalen te moeten kijken. Kijk, dit is geen schandaal foto. Daar is het mij ook niet om te doen, maar de foto van gewone mensen in hun dagelijkse besognes. Daar wil ik de nadruk op leggen. Dat taal fanatisme is hier in België al aan de gang van 1963 en het kon me tot dusver gestolen worden, maar als het ons begint te raken in ons dagelijks leven ons dagelijks reilen en zeilen van naar het werk gaan, de trein nemen, op vakantie gaan... dat is een brug te ver. Wie binnendringt in de intimiteit van ons dagelijks leven is niet langer een hooligan, maar een FASCIST. In hoofdletters. En dit is niet alleen mijn persoonlijke mening, dit is ook schitterend verwoord door Johan Sanctorum in zijn Blog post: 'Ceci n’est pas un poisson'.

Wat is er mis met nationalisme? In de jaren zeventig werd de onafhankelijkstrijd van de onderdrukte volkeren in de derde wereld door Links verheerlijkt. Mao, Che Guevara hebben allebei op hun manier die strijd gepromoot. Links volgde. Op een bepaald moment bestond JP Sartre het zelfs van Pol Pot en de Rode Kmers te verdedigen. Elke nationalistische strijd was ‘in se’ goed en verdedigbaar. Is het dan niet hypocriet nu het Vlaams Nationalisme aan te vallen? Zelfs de nationale strijd van de Koerden, de Basken en de Katholieke Ieren, die ook een socialistisch tintje had, werd aktief door Links omarmd terwijl de Vlaamse strijd ter Linkerzijde op geen of toch heel weinig bijval kon rekenen. Een eerste antwoord ligt voor de hand. De Vlamingen worden niet meer onderdrukt door een imperialistische macht. Ja, want daar ging het toen tegen, tegen het imperialisme, het neo-kolonialisme. OK, maar volstaat dat antwoord. Heeft een volk niet het recht zich sterk te maken om alle mogelijke aanvallen reeds bij voorbaat te counteren. Wat is er mis met exclusieve empathie voor zijn volksgenoten, buren, streekgenoten, cultuurgenoten? We hebben het niet meer over ras vandaag. Het VB misschien, maar de NVA toch niet?

Update on a cutting Knife

In an earlier post on Linguistic Cleansing I also mentioned the story about the 14 yrs old Sara who received 38 stabs of a cutter knife because she spoke French in Kapellen-op-den-Bos. Today a few Flemish newspapers bring a different story on the incident as it was reported earlier by as well the Flemish as the Francophone papers. Though is was treated more extensively in the French speaking part of the country.

'De Standaard' and 'Het Nieuwsblad' both quote  the spokesman of the Brussels court Jos Colpin . As to Colpin there is no prove that Sara was stabbed by the other girls. This does not mean that the whole incident was a haox. There should have been two confrontations. Only during the second confrontation the police was present and made a protocol. As for now I didn't find this story in the French press.

For a while i'm going to write exclusively  in English. I have had it with the Flemish nationalists. What's happening in Flanders recalls the dark Middle Ages when Flemish insurrectionists used the phrase 'Schild en Vriend' to select and kill French speaking soldiers in Bruges. The Bruges Matins or Brugse Metten was the nocturnal massacre of the French garrison in Bruges by the members of the local Flemish militia on 18 May 1302. The title of the massacre was an analogy to the Sicilian Vespers. The massacre has been compared to St. Bartholomew's Day massacre. This revolt led to the Battle of the Golden Spurs, which saw the Flemish militia defeat French troops on 11 July 1302.
