Berufs Verbote

'De Walen, die willen niet werken' (The Walloons, they do not want to work). It's an often uttered complaint in Flanders. But some Flemish enterprises in Brussels do not want them to work. They not only require their employees to be bilingual, but they have to be Native Dutch Speaking too. This is indicated as Nederlands: moedertaal. This means if you were born in Brussels or Wallonia, and your mother spoke French, you do not qualify. This is completely illegal. Using the 'Native Speaker' criterium as a selction criterium is a violation of the law. This was confirmed by Minister Onkelinx in December 2000. See parliamentarian question by Bart Staes at http://www.bartstaes.be/articles.php?id=314. Flemish enterprises are thus jolly breaching the Law. They cannot be persecuted by the Law against racism, but they should be persecuted by the Anti-Discrimination Law of 10 May 2007. Not surprisingly the MR has made a Bill to errect a 'Centrum voor Taaldiversiteit' to controle and persecute als these law breaches like those we mentionned before in earlier postings.
